You will need
- Fabric
- Zipper
- Sewing machine
- Zipper
Step 1:
Fold in half and half again. Make a quater circle on the inner skirt where all the seams are folded. Waist measurement in inches divided by pie.
Step 2 – Option 1 Surger
If you have a serger you can surge the hem with a narrow hem. I have a Brother 1034D, so I have attached a video on the settings needed for a fine hem.
Step 2: Option 2 Sewing Machine
Sew a 1/4 line around the bottom of all of your hems. (Do not sew anything together).
Press the fabric back. The bottom of the fold should be the line you have just sewn. This is going to give you a guide to press your folded hem.
With the hem pressed back sew together the folded hem to the skirt. Make sure that you try and get as close to the first line you sewed as possible.
Trim the excess.
Here is a video that explains it better.
Step 3:
Lay the fabric flat stack each one on the other. Determine where you want the squares to fall.
Baste the layers together at the inner circle which is the waist.
Step 4:
Determine where you want your center back to lay. Cut a line to the desired length of your zipper. Zig Zag stitch around both sides you have just cut to stop the fabric from fraying and securing the multiple layers.
Step 5:
Insert the zipper.
Step 6:
If you have a serger, serge the waistline of the skirt to clean all the layers up.
Step 7:
Attach your elastic waist band.
