Sometimes it’s all too easy to get caught up in life, work and social stress, which can put strain not only on yourself but on your relationship with your partner. By grounding ourselves in gratitude and taking the time to listen to our mental and physical needs, we can improve the relationship with ourselves and partner to create a fulfilling and lasting connection. 

Practicing mindfulness with your partner can help you grow together emotionally, deepening your connecting with each other while also improving your physical and mental health. Taking a meditation staycation means bringing the relaxing feelings of a yoga retreat or mindfulness getaway into your own home. 

Take a weekend away from the world and devote it to yourself, your partner and your meditation practice using these steps. 

  1. Take the Weekend Off

The first step is to treat your meditation staycation like you would an actual mindfulness getaway. Tell your friends and family you won’t be available and avoid looking at your phone as much as possible. Unplugging is a great way to shift your focus onto yourself and your relationship without worrying about the outside world. 

  1. Create a Relaxing Ambiance

There are many ways to create the relaxing feeling of a yoga retreat in your own home. Dim the lights, light some candles and put on a relaxing playlist that makes you feel zen and relaxed. Bust out the yoga mats or simply put blankets and pillows on the floor for ultimate relaxation while you practice mindfulness together. 

  1. Meditate

The practice of meditation is great for relationships. Taking time to breathe, focus on our needs and prioritize ourselves can help us nurture a positive outlook on the world while helping our bodies stay strong and healthy.   1. Get Outside 

Forest bathing — or the Japanese practice of going out into nature to improve physical and mental health — is a great way to see more of your city while staying mindful and meditative. If your town has a walking or hiking trail, body of water or large outdoor park, go on a long walk with your partner and enjoy nature together. Use the opportunity to have a meaningful conversation and connect deeper with them as well. 

  1. Create a Relaxing Spa Experience 

After a long day of activities, it’s time to relax even further. Fill a warm bath, put on a face mask and practice some of your favorite self care rituals with your partner. For added romance, bring out the massage oils and take turns giving each other a full-body massage. 

Focusing on mindfulness in your home is a great way to recenter yourself and deepen your connection with your partner. Consider taking weekend for a meditation staycation.
