Online Contortion & Flexibility Classes

Circus Arts Training School

What Are Contortion Classes?

Contortion is next level end range strength & active flexibility training for all levels with mild to low acrobatic training for transitional moves. They are the ultimate mobility (latest buzz word) class.

In order to increase your mobility you need to work on several facets of human biology such as joints, tendons, connective tissue, nerves and muscle build a solid structure that is free of tension.

This and only this will increase your range of motion. Two major factors that can impede flexibility in parts of your body would be dense scar tissue or bone structure.

How are our contortion classes different?

Our classes are taught by qualified fitness professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance.

Class Duration

When you are training in contortion you want to have a good 90 minute practice to ensure that you are sufficiently warmed up in order to move the whole body into deep postures such as chest stands that require a lot of anterior neck flexibility (Scalenes, Platysma, Sternocleidomastoid & Sternohyoid).

It is our recommendation that contortion students follow a 90-minute class structure by adding a short amount of strength and conditioning and passive stretching for 15 minutes after the commencement of the 75 minute class.

This allows the contortion trainer to delve deep into technique which is the most important facet of contortion training. Without the correct skill structure you will set your body up for acute injury now or chronic illness later.

All of our instructors are qualified fitness professionals.

What If I'm Not Naturally Flexible?

First things first I just want to say... NO ONE is BORN THAT WAY.

In fact people with hypermobiilty spectrum disorders need to work twice as hard to prevent chronic injuries. We don't fall into poses your muscles pull yourself into those deep positions.

Safe & Supportive Student Enviroment

Student safety is at the forefront of our values. The MAJOR difference between us and other studios is that we mean it.

ALL OF OUR INSTRUCTORS ARE CERTIFIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS WITH AT LEAST 4 YEARS OF HEALTH EDUCATION.

Contortion and circus arts is a completely unregulated industry. That means you could coin yourself a teacher and start tomorrow. You will be lucky to find one of the other guys with a group instructor certification, but they do a very good job of creating the illusion that they do.

Looks Can Be Deceiving - Being Safe Means Correct Alignment

These two contortion poses may look the same but the body mechanics are very different. The deeper posture is the safer posture as there is no hinging in the spinal column.

Our alignment classes are just as much work yet you can start from a beginner and develop in this class. It is great for ballet dancers as

we use a lot of PBT (progressive ballet technique) to provide mechanical feedback so that the nervous system can learn correctly where the body should be positioned in the planes of motion.

Have you ever tried to do something and you thought you were doing it and then you took a photo and realized that its not at all the same? It's pretty common in aerial silks. The body needs to learn to marry what it looks like and what it feels like together in order to be successful. Join our alignment class where we still work just as hard on all of the positions.

Alternatively we can always work privately together.
