There are so many patterns out there. Some that fit well and some that do not! Here is my pattern review for the New Look Baby A6440.
New Look Baby by Simplicity. I chose to work with design option A.
Newborn to 24 pounds. The recommended sizing for the measurements is a little large.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions were easy to follow. I did get a little lost when it came to implementing the shoulder ruffle and yolk. Mainly because I had never heard of a yolk before. I am also a complete newbie to sewing too. I intend on making this pattern again. Next time I would remove the yolk and just implement the ruffle.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I just love the way the bottom of the dress flares out. I wish there was an adult version for me!
Light denim, bias tape, and eyelet fabrics.
Pattern alterations and design changes made:
I did make a few alterations when making this dress. I removed the ruffle on the sleeve and made the dress a little smaller by decreasing the sizing in the back. This was done by overlapping the fabric in the back of the dress. It can easily be let it out later. I also removed the spacing on the top of the armholes so that it fits around the shoulder comfortably as it was currently too large.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, I would sew it again. The way the top flares out towards the baseline is really pretty. It reminds me of a swing dress.
This dress can be made simply for the novice seamstress by eliminating some of the complexities of the design. Or the intermediate seamstress by incorporating all design aspects.
I love this dress and I love how it turned out.
