Baby showers are a lovely way to celebrate the mother to be and her baby before it’s arrival. It’s a celebration for friends and family to come around, play games, and raise a glass or two in the mummy-to-be’s honor. Here are some tips on throwing a great baby shower.
Determine A Budget
A budget is essential when it comes to planning an event because they can quickly escalate into something that eats away at your bank balance. Usually, the mother to be gets one of her family members or friends to plan the baby shower in order to keep a surprise, so make sure you are allocating a budget. Make sure to be strict with your budget so that they know exactly what they’re working with and that they don’t overspend. Typically at these baby showers you would have food, drink, and decor for the baby shower. You might also want to play some games, so a small budget might be needed. Making sure you have a budget will allow you to limit the amount that is planned because it can be very easy to throw too much into the mix and have too much happening at once.
Collate A Guest List
A guest list is good to get down as soon as possible so that you can send out the invitations. Be sure to be ruthless when it comes to picking the guests and be aware that the more you have, the more complicated and stressful it will become to plan. You also don’t want to be overwhelmed as the mum-to-be by having too many guests and therefore finding it extremely difficult to speak with everyone during the event. The host wants to have fun and enjoy a relaxed morning or afternoon, so be wary of just how many people you’re inviting.
Pick a theme
A theme is a great way to bring the party together. There are so many different themes that are thrown today around a baby shower such a gender reveals and gender known baby showers.
Either way they are fun to organise and decorate. A few popular ideas for girls are:
- Unicorn Themes
- Tutu Themes
- Garden Themes
- White Theme
- Pink Theme
Just to name a few. I personally had a garden theme and we had my baby shower at a high tea venue in Jacksonville Florida. It was perfect!
Have A Plan
A plan is good to have in order to layout the event and to have some direction so that it doesn’t overrun or guests are left twiddling their thumbs. Think about what is going to work for the amount of guests you have and also what mum-to-be wants to do over the course of the event. She might not want too many games, or she might want it to be jam-packed full of them. Tailor it with the mummy in mind!
A few fun games that you can incorperate when throwing a baby shower are:
- Match the baby animal to the adult animal. These can be trickier than what you think!
- Nursery rhyme trivia.
- DIY baby blocks. Time to get arty and crafty.
- Pregnant twister. Participants wear a fake belly and play twister. Its a crack up!
- Who’s that baby. Guests bring a baby picture and everyone has to match the baby to a guest.
If you get stuck you can always order great games of etsy!
Organize Some Goodie Bags
Goodie bags or party favors are a great way of saying thank you for your guests attending. There are plenty of custom baby shower candy, and depending on the requests of the mum-to-be, they might have suggestions of what to put in the goodie bags themselves. It’s a nice treat for those who attended, and you can always throw in keepsakes that guests can keep and look back on in the future.
A baby shower is a lovely celebration that everyone who attends will remember. Whether you choose to do a baby gender reveal or not is up to you. Make it personal for the mum-to-be in mind and enjoy every moment.
By now you should be ready to throw the ultimate baby shower. Want to share your baby shower experience? We would love to hear about it and feature you in an article.
